Templates for the Space Sky

Just in time for the weekend, here're the promised templates for making recolors of the new space sky!


A quick overview of the mesh: The blue line indicates the height of the grabber, the red area mirrors the bit of texture above. You won't see that, though, unless you look from a high angle in neighbourhood view or place the grabber on very high terrain. The download includes a cutout for the texture (black). I have cut away those areas in my textures, I believe that saves a little space as opposed to black corners. For those of you who like to be precise there's also a full sized UV-map (red). Remember that the texture goes a good bit beyond the horizon, so you shouldn't put things that you want to be visible from lots too close to the edge.


The templates have the advantage of a small placeholder texture. That way you save a bit of time because you don't have to wait for the big default texture to load everytime you recolor the lot version or clone the hood deco version. :) Keep them out of your downloads folder, though, else the lot version template will possibly overwrite the normal sky. The recommended size for textures is 2048 x 2048 pixels.
1024 x 1024 is too blurry for an object this size, whereas 4096 x 4096 is possible but produces files of gigantic size.

Don't forget to make every recolor for both the lot and the hood deco version! :)

NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day Archive is an excellent source for suitable pictures. If you use one from there I encourage you to include the date/link in your file name/description like I did, so people can look up more info about it!
